Open to new and returning students! This class will involve creative play in which students will create their own characters and scenes to perform for family and friends! Students will also learn basic acting techniques through fun movement and vocal exercises to learn and understand what it means to be an actor or actress!

Do you enjoy a good mystery? In this class, students will strengthen their acting skills through character development and exploring scenes while participating in a “whodunit” mystery! Students will rehearse and build a performance from a chosen script (TBA), develop their own original spin on scripted characters and work together to bring the mystery to life!

Students will learn to apply the techniques of acting to their singing in ways that will help them to express a characters’ objectives and actions while singing, and help students to make strong choices when performing musical material. Students should bring in songs they have prepared or are currently working on. Some experience with reading music is required but for questions, please contact Jill.

In this scene study class, students will learn techniques in memorization, script analysis and character analysis while implementing exercises to keep scenes fresh and vibrant. Students will work on short scenes from a variety of genres and styles. No prior experience necessary.

Dandelion, a sweet loveable lion, wants nothing more than to go to Jennifer the Giraffe’s party but is so afraid to just be himself! With both the book and adapted musical, students will create their own take on the bright, fun characters through creative play and storytelling. This class is in participation with the PTA’s Theatre for Youth Spring production of Dandelion so students and families will be able to not only explore the story in class but get a chance to see it performed on stage at Playhouse on Park! Director, Jill Zarcone, and actors from the cast will also visit the class to talk about the show and play fun theatre games! A wonderful opportunity for those first time actors and actresses!

This lively class will use improvisational exercises to teach students the importance of listening, saying YES, being present and using those skills to create characters and build worlds. Improvisational acting is based in comedy and we encourage silliness and fun! Improv has many benefits including bringing a sense of calm in dealing with the unknown, feelings of confidence and decreased sense of anxiety! This class is open to new students, but returning students are welcomed too!

Students will engage in these stories through creative play, story telling, and fun theatre games geared towards learning how to use their voice and bodies to create original characters and scenes!
